Kiko Continentino

 

As a pianist, arranger, producer and composer Kiko Continentino is recognized as a renowed name in Brazilian (jazz) music.

Kiko is  a member in the band of Brazilian legend Milton Nascimento as  a pianist, composer and arranger.  He recorded the Cd “Gil & Milton”.  He was invited to compose for the Quarteto Jobim Morelenbau (replacing Daniel Jobim), with whom he was participating in shows throughout Brazil. He has been working with the most important names in Brazilian music like: Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, EduLobo, Guinga, Leny Andrade, Joao Bosco, Djavan, JaneDuboc, Emílio Santiago, Leila Pinheiro, Ivete Sangalo, Seu Jorge, Erasmo Carlos among others.

He worked as an instrumentalist and arranger in the Sharp Award (1994 edition) which honored Gilberto Gil,  played with Jorge Ben, Nana Caymmi, Dione Warwick, Elba Ramalho and Dominguinhos, among others. He recorded with Joao Bosco the Cd “On The Corner” and participated on the “Beauty Beat” Cd, with the singer Ivete Sangalo.

With his brothers Jorge and Alberto he formed the ‘Continentrio’ instrumental group that plays compositions and arrangements of the three, with an expirimental design. The band performed at various venues throughout Brazil and in 2000 received the award for best pro-music instrumental group from Minas Gerais (Brazil). In 2003 the brothers released their first CD, named ContinenTrio with own compositions of the three.

With Milton Nascimento, he recorded ‘Headquarters of the Fish’, produced by HBO Films Conspiracy (available on DVD), working with singers and guests as Alaíde Costa,  Gilberto Gil, Alcione and Zelia Duncan. Recorded for the Multi-Show ‘Drums of Minas’ (available on DVD), and ‘Crooner Gil & Milton’.

Kiko Continentino recorded  ‘Guanabara’ with the Sambajazz Trio. On this album, Kiko signs four compositions. Wrote “North Indians” for the CD of the band of his brother Jorge Continentino, residing in New York. The group is called ‘Forro in the Dark’ and the CD has the participation of the producer of singer David Byrne and Bebel Gilberto.Continentino
