It was a fore gone conclusion, that Pianist, Composer, Producer, Arranger Axel Tosca Laugart, was destine to be a musician. Born in Cuba to Cuban singer/folkloric songwriter Albert Tosca, and world renown Cuban vocalist Xiomara Laugart, his musical influences were everywhere, and his fate was sealed. His first interest was the guitar, but by the age of 7 he found his calling with the piano. Studying diligently under the guidance of Miriam Valdez, who is the sister of pianist/virtuoso Chucho Valdez, and Rosa Marie Talon, Axel's technique and style started to evolve. He began his formal training at the prestigious Paulita Concepcion Elementary School of Music and graduated as a teenager from the equally well known Amadeo Roldan Provincial School Of Music. In between at the age of 15,Axel immersed himself in the revolutionary Timba and the Hip Hop music scenes of Havana, which resulted in him performing with the legendary Quest Love and the Roots. In 2005 on the advice of Timbalero Amadito Valdez of the Buena Vista Social Club, Axel decided to move to the United States, as part of the world touring company of "Havana Nights", that performed in Las Vegas for two consecutive years. During his time in Las Vegas, Axel was spotted by George Clinton of Parliament/Funkedelic, and was asked to rehearse with the band, which resulted in Axel performing with P-Funk in Washington DC on December 31, 2007, and B.B. Kings in New York City shortly thereafter. When he relocated to New York City in 2009, Axel was awarded a scholarship to finish his Bachelor's Degree in Music at the New School Of Contemporary Jazz/Parsons University. During that time, he started his first band, (U)nity, with drummer Amaury Acosta. (U)nity has been together for 7 years, which produced two albums; "Peace, Love, and Music and "(U)nity Is Power". He also produced two of his mothers solo albums, "La Voz" and "Tears And Rumba" HIs debut release as a leader "AXEL TOSCA" is available on ALFI Records.
